Susceptibility of AKXD recombinant inbred mouse strains to lymphomas.
We analyzed the susceptibility of 10 AKXD recombinant inbred (RI) mouse strains to lymphomas. These strains were derived from crosses of AKR/J, a highly lymphomatous strain, and DBA/2J, a weakly lymphomatous strain. Of the 10 strains analyzed, nine showed a high incidence of lymphoma development. As with the other 13 AKXD strains analyzed previously (M. L. Mucenski, B. A. Taylor, N. A. Jenkins,...

The recombinant inbred mouse strain, SWXL-4, exhibits tonic-clonic and generalized seizures similar to the commonest epilepsies in humans. In SWXL-4 animals, seizures are observed following routine handling at about 80 days of age and may be induced as early as 55 days by rhythmic gentle tossing. Seizures are accompanied by rapid, bilateral high frequency spike cortical discharges and followed ...

One niche of experimental biology that has experienced considerable progress is the neurobiology of learning and memory. A key contributor to such progress has been the widespread use of transgenic and 'knockout' mice to elucidate the mechanisms of identifiable phenotypes of learning and memory. Inbred mouse strains are needed to generate genetically modified mice. However, genetic variations b...

Phylogenetic analyses of genetic data arising from 144 gene loci are used to describe the interrelationships among 24 widely used inbred strains of mice. An unordered-parsimony analysis gives a cladogram that is virtually identical to the known genealogy of the mouse strains. A loss-parsimony analysis is used to evaluate the hypothesis that the observed patterns of genetic divergence among thes...
متن کاملGenetic and haplotype diversity among wild-derived mouse inbred strains.
With the completion of the mouse genome sequence, it is possible to define the amount, type, and organization of the genetic variation in this species. Recent reports have provided an overview of the structure of genetic variation among classical laboratory mice. On the other hand, little is known about the structure of genetic variation among wild-derived strains with the exception of the pres...
